Abstract

Objective:To develop the student version and parent version of academic involution behavior scale(AIBS),and examine its reliability and validity.Methods:The initial scale was compiled through interviews and drawing on previ-ous relevant scales.The item analysis and reliability and validity tests were performed in the sample of 747 students from grade 4 to grade 9,and 1304 parents of primary and secondary school students.Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the measurement invariance of the student version scale in gender and grade,and the parent version in gen-der.Results:Exploratory factor analysis showed that both versions of the scale had a single-factor structure,with the vari-ance explained by the single factor being 56.399%for the student version,and 61.255%for the parent version.The item loadings ranged from 0.640 to 0.822 for the student version,and from 0.761 to 0.808 for the parent version.The Cronbach'sα coefficient and composite reliability for the student version were 0.817 and 0.882,and the parent version were 0.863 and 0.895.Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated that the single-factor models for both versions fitted well(Student ver-sion:x2/df=2.811,CFI=0.978,TLI=0.963,RMSEA=0.070,SRMR=0.028;Parent version:x2/df=3.602,CFI=0.991,TLI=0.990,RMSEA=0.062,SRMR=0.046).The student version of the scale met the strict measurement equivalence across gen-der and grade,and the parent version met the strict equivalence across gender.Conclusion:The two versions of AIBS de-veloped in this study have good psychometric properties,and can be used separately to assess the academic involution be-havior of Chinese primary and secondary school students and their parents.
