Control function optimization for tap changers in receiving-end converter station transformers

Abstract
To address the frequent operations of converter transformer tap changers in ultra-high voltage direct cur-rent(UHVDC)transmission projects,this paper analyzes the control logic and parameters of tap changers in receiving-end converter stations.The root causes of frequent operations are investigated by examining power regula-tion and AC voltage variation.Two optimization strategies are proposed:(1)a dynamic voltage regulation strategy based on predictive extinction angle control,and(2)a dynamic voltage regulation strategy based on DC voltage con-trol.The effectiveness of both strategies is verified through real-time digital simulator(RTDS)-based simulation models.Results demonstrate that while Strategy 1 significantly reduces tap-changer operations at the cost of certain DC voltage operating levels,Strategy 2 effectively decreases operations while maintaining DC voltage stability,al-beit requiring substantial modifications to existing control strategies.Both strategies demonstrate satisfactory optimi-zation effects in simulations and engineering practice,providing effective solutions to reduce tap-changer operations.关键词
