Abstract
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease with a multifactorial etiology and unknown pathogenesis, clinically presenting with intermittent diarrhea, mucopurulent bloody stool, abdominal pain, tenesmus, etc.,mainly affecting the rectum and colon. With the fast pace of development of the times, the incidence of ulcerative colitis has been on the rise in recent years. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, ulcerative colitis is a syndrome of deficiency at the root and excess at the symptoms, with dysfunction of the liver and spleen being the fundamental cause of the occurrence and development of the disease and throughout the entire course. From the perspective of Western medicine, the microbiota-gut-brain axis engages in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis. The intestinal microbiota can be affected respectively from the aspects of diet and emotionals, thus leading to the onset of the disease. Its theoretical connotation is consistent with the holistic concept of traditional Chinese medicine.According to current research findings, the conveyance and dispersion functions of liver in traditional Chinese medicine is related to the neuro-endocrine axis, which can affect intestinal inflammation and intestinal microbiota by regulating changes in key substances in neuroendocrine mediators and bile acid metabolism;the transformation and transportation functions of spleen in traditional Chinese medicine are closely related to intestinal microbiota, the flora aids digestion and promotes immune development, and spleen deficiency and flora imbalance influence each other. It can be said that the theory of the liver and spleen are in line with the theory of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, among which the theory of liver and spleen is the traditional Chinese medicine foundation of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, and the microbiota-gut-brain axis is the biological foundation of the theory of the liver and spleen.Based on this, from the perspective of the liver and spleen in traditional Chinese medicine and based on the theory of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, methods such as soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen, regulating emotions, and regulating intestinal microbiota in traditional Chinese medicine are proposed to restore the balance of the brain-intestines axis in this study,so as to effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of patients with ulcerative colitis, improve the efficacy of the treatment, provide new ideas and theoretical support for the future diagnosis and treatment of ulcerative colitis in traditional Chinese medicine, and provide a reference for subsequent related studies.关键词
