外国语言文学学科视域下区域国别研究的对象、原则与路径
Area Studies from the Perspective of the Foreign Languages and Literature Discipline:Its Objects,Principles,and Pathways

Abstract
With the rise of China's comprehensive national strength and the deepening of international cooperation,understanding regions and countries beyond its borders has become increasingly important.Area studies,inherently linked with foreign languages,offer foreign language faculty distinctive advantages in conducting research.However,challenges remain regarding how to effectively carry out such studies.This paper,based on the relationship between area studies and foreign languages and literature discipline,states that area studies should focus on humanistic issues in foreign countries and regions through first-hand materials and field research methods,and proposes four research pathways from four traditional directions—foreign linguistics and applied linguistics,foreign literature,translation studies,and comparative literature and cross-cultural studies—in concordance with principles such as serving national strategies,leveraging the disciplinary attributes of foreign languages and literature,integrating the research foundation and disciplinary strengths of the host university,and focusing on research on particular countries,areas,and specific fields.The study aims to help foreign language faculty adjust their research focus,produce area studies outputs that serve national strategies,and demonstrate the disciplinary value of foreign languages and literature.关键词
