Abstract

Major discoveries and breakthroughs have been successively made in various reservoirs of the Fengcheng Formation in the Mahu area of the Junggar basin,forming a unique reservoir sequence within a whole petroleum system.In order to clarify the sedimentary characteristics,distribution laws,and filling patterns of these reservoirs,this study systematically analyzes their sedimentary facies using data from key well logs,core samples,and 3D seismic surveys.The results show that the Fengcheng Formation comprises a fan delta-lake sedimentary system.The fan delta facies is mainly composed of plain,inner front,and outer front subfacies,while the lake facies mainly consists of shoreline,shallow lake,and semi-deep lake subfacies.A variety of reservoir types are well developed,which include coarse-grained conglomerates,medium-grained sandstones,fine-grained siltstones,mudstones,and alkaline minerals.Coarse-to medium-grained reservoirs are primarily found within fan delta deposits,while fine-grained reservoirs are more common in lake settings.Laterally,fan delta deposits from different stages overlap within the Fengcheng Formation,forming three major fan delta groups in the western,northern,and eastern regions.These are mainly composed of distributary channel conglomerates and sandstones.Over time,the distribution of these fan deltas gradually expanded,accompanied by a corresponding enlargement of the lake area.The evolution of this system was controlled by four main factors:tectonic activity,sediment supply,lake-level variations,and climate.This interplay resulted in three types of fan deltas during water transgression:retrogressive,composite,and progradational.Correspondingly,three types of mixed sedimentary filling patterns coexist:undercompensated,balanced,and overcompensated.The systematic study of the sedimentary characteristics and filling patterns of the reservoirs of the Fengcheng Formation provides a typical example for understanding the distribution patterns of reservoirs in the whole petroleum system.
