Abstract
Taking the"June 2024"storm flood event in the Xijiang River basin as the research object, the summary and analysis are focused on the rainfall and flood process, flood composition, flood characteristics and the role of hydraulic engineering. The results show that from the mid-June to early July 2024,four heavy rainfall events occurred in the Xijiang River Basin, characterized by long duration, wide coverage, high short-term intensity, and highly overlapping rainfall areas. These events triggered four numbered floods in the river, which featured prolonged high flood levels, short intervals between flood peaks, and rapid propagation time. The No.2 Flood of Xijiang River was a mid-lower reaches flood, mainly caused by the inflows from the Liujiang River and Guijiang River. The main stream of Xijiang River experiences a once-in-10-year mid flood. The No.1,No.3 and No.4 Floods of Xijiang were all mid-up stream floods, primarily sourced from the Hongshui River and its tributary Liujiang River. The flood level was a small flood with recurrence interval of five years. The No.2 Flood of Xijiang at Wuzhou Station had the largest flood volume, reaching 21.32 billion m3,followed by No.3 and No.4 Floods of Xijiang, with flood volumes of 16.63 billion m3 and 16.82 billion m3 respectively. The No.1 flood of Xijiang had the smallest flood volume, only 8.63 billion m3.During the flood process, the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub played a significant role in flood control and peak reduction, with a total of about 1.5 billion cubic meters of stored water, reducing the flood control pressure in the lower reaches of the Xijiang River and the Pearl River Delta region.关键词
