Abstract

To establish a rational irrigation and fertilization regime and promote the sustainable development of the onion industry in Gansu,4 irrigation-fertilization schemes were evaluated under a mulched drip irrigation system:conventional nitrogen rate+conventional irrigation(CK),70%conventional nitrogen+conventional irrigation,70%conventional nitrogen+78%conventional irrigation,and 70%conventional nitrogen+60%conventional irrigation.Results showed that a 22%reduction in irrigation on the basis of 30%nitrogen reduction had no adverse impact on onion growth and yield.Under this condition,onion yield reached 98 879.4 kg/ha,which was 0.15%higher than the conventional treatment.Total water consumption during the growing period decreased by 13.47%,and water use efficiency increased by 15.66%.Therefore,an irrigation-fertilization regime combining 30%nitrogen reduction and 22%water saving under mulched drip irrigation is an appropriate management practice for efficient onion production in the Hexi region.
