Effects of Mixing Duration and Process Optimization for Biochar-Polyurethane Cultivation Substrate

Abstract
To prepare a degradable biomass cultivation substrate suitable for soilless cultivation in plant factories,this study used polyurethane as the matrix and compounded it with biomass materials such as bamboo charcoal and cassava flour.The effect of stirring duration of the mixture during the preparation process on the structure and properties of the cultivation substrate was investigated.The results showed that stirring duration,as a key process parameter,significantly affected the pore structure,water absorption and retention properties,mechanical properties,and seedling cultivation effect of the substrate.With the increase of stirring duration,the pores were gradually uniformly dispersed,forming a well-developed open-cell structure,which reduced the hardness of the substrate and optimized its resilience.When the stirring duration was 20s,the substrate exhibited both rapid water absorption and long-term water retention characteristics.This dynamic water balance property provided a stable water supply environment for plants,showing the best seedling cultivation effect with the highest seedling emergence rate and strong seedling index.This study provides a new idea for the high-value utilization of agricultural waste and promotes the development of soilless cultivation technology towards environmental protection and functionalization.关键词
