Rural population aging and agricultural ecological efficiency:Inhibition or promotion?A perspective from two-dimension of endogenous factors and external substitution

Abstract
Under the impact of rural population aging,the realization of green agricultural development is the key and difficult point in the rural revitalization strategy.Based on the survey data of corn growers in Liaoning Province in 2023,we use linear regression model,mediation effect model and regulation effect model to investigate the impact and mechanism of rural population aging on agricultural ecological efficiency.The results reveal that:1)The aging of rural population plays a significant role in promoting agricultural ecological efficiency,and this conclusion is still valid after endogenous treatment and robustness test.2)The mechanism test results indicate that the cognition of aging farmers in endogenous environmental protection is helpful to improve the agricultural ecological efficiency,and the agricultural productive services,one of the external substitute factors,plays an alternative role in the relationship between the aging of rural population and the promotion of agricultural ecological efficiency.3)The heterogeneity analysis uncovers that the aging farmers with farming scale greater than 0.5hm2 and more education exert a significant promoting effect on agricultural ecological efficiency.Based on the above findings,we suggest the the accumulation of rural human capital should be strengthened,and farmers' awareness of environmental protection be improved.In addition,the government should improve the agricultural productive service mechanism and improve farmers' enthusiasm for maintaining agricultural ecology.关键词
