Abstract

Guangdong Province has a large number of small and medium-sized reservoirs.In recent years,continuous rainfall has triggered several earth dam landslides,highlighting the significant impact of rainwater infiltration on dam stability.Taking a dam slope landslide event at a small reservoir in Dongyuan County during the"Dragon Boat Water"period in June 2024 as a case study,this paper outlines the emergency response process and utilizes GeoStudio simulation software to analyze the transient seepage field within the dam and the changes in dam slope stability during rainfall.The results show that continuous rainfall significantly increases the water saturation of shallow soil in the dam slope,reduces the shear strength of the soil,and gradually pushes the dam slope stability toward a critical state.It is suggested that relevant provisions be added when revising the Code for Design of Rolled Earth Dams to account for the rainfall characteristics of southern China and their adverse effects on dam slope stability,thereby enhancing the safety of reservoir projects.
