Abstract
The cutaneous regions represent not only the boundaries where channel qi manifests on the body surface,but also the outer-most structural units of the meridian network.As the clinical application of cutaneous region theory,regulating defense qi through shal-low insertion stimulates the movement of channel qi by needling specific areas of the cutaneous regions.Its mechanism of actions in-cludes the following three levels:First,dredging the striae and interstices can facilitate the smooth flow of nutrient-defense qi and blood.Second,unblocking the collaterals is to harmonize the channel qi between the exterior and interior.Third,guiding pathogenic factors out-ward is to regulate the deficiency and excess states of the zang-fu organs.When defensive qi fails in its consolidating and restraining function,pathogenic factors seize the opportunity to transmit along the pathways of the regular meridians,collaterals,and cutaneous re-gions.Shallow insertion of acupoints can stimulate defensive yang,expel pathogenic factors,and restore the physiological function of"defending the exterior and keeping consolidation,"thereby blocking the pathways for the inward transmission of pathogenic factors.Its operational essentials are characterized by three main features:First,the needling is superficial,penetrating only into the dermis without reaching the subcutaneous tissues,effectively avoiding the risk of injury to deeper blood vessels,nerves,and zang-fu organ tissues.Sec-ond,the procedure does not aim to achieve the traditional needling sensation of"arrival of qi",maintaining channel qi sensation with light stimulation,which significantly reduces patients'discomfort.Third,the treatment involves minimal pain,resulting in lower psycho-logical burden for patients and significantly higher compliance compared to traditional deep needling methods.This therapeutic approach not only preserves the essential characteristic of acupuncture in"regulating qi,"but also innovates an intervention pathway that"em-phasizes the regulation of defense qi."It forms a clinical advantage characterized by"light stimulation-strong regulation-high compli-ance,"providing a reference for regulating deficiency syndromes and treating special populations.关键词
