Abstract

The purpose of this study is to screen for salt-tolerant varieties from the Baiyan series of oat materials,determine the indicators related to salt tolerance,and understand the salt tolerance characteristics of each material.Salt tolerance of 20 oat varieties in the Baiyan series was identified under a salt stress concentration of 150 mmol/L.Based on the salt tolerance coefficients of 12 oat tolerance-related indicators,the comprehensive salt tolerance and salt tolerance characteristics of each oat variety in the Baiyan series were clarified through correlation analysis,principal component analysis,membership function analysis,cluster analysis,and stepwise regression analysis.The re-sults showed that salt stress caused a decrease in plant height,fresh weight,root length,K+,and other indicators of oat seedlings,while Na+,proline,soluble sugar,SOD,POD,CAT and malondialdehyde increased.The extent of change in each indicator varied among different materials.Five oat varieties,namely BY2,BY6,BY7,BY8 and BY9,were classified as highly salt-tolerant,another five materials,BY1,BY4,BY12,BY17 and BY19,were considered to have moderate salt tolerance,the remaining ten materials,BY3,BY5,BY10,BY11,BY13,BY14,BY15,BY16,BY18 and BY20,were catego-rized as salt-sensitive.The mathematical model established to predict the salt tolerance of oat seed-lings is as follows:Y=-0.984+0.403X1+0.407X2+0.084X3+0.021X4+0.035X5+0.037X6.By substitut-ing the salt tolerance coefficients of root length,SOD,plant height,Na+,proline and soluble sugar into the equation,the salt tolerance of oat seedlings could be accurately predicted.The salt tolerance coefficients of root length and SOD could serve as important indicators for the preliminary judgment of oat salt tolerance.This study can provide basic information and methodological references for the research on the salt tolerance of oat seedlings.
