Abstract

In recent years,medium-and high-frequency resonance events between modular multilevel converters(MMCs)and AC power grid have occurred frequently,attracting increasing attention.Therefore,in this paper,the resonance problem is analyzed and corresponding suppression strategies are proposed.Firstly,the analytical expression of the MMC AC-side impedance is established in this paper.Then,the mechanism and influencing factors of different types of resonances,including active resonance and passive resonance,are analyzed.To achieve effective suppression of resonances,resonance risk indexes are defined to evaluate the resonance risk,and the suppression effects of different strategies are compared through calculation.Subsequently,cooperative resonance suppression strategies are proposed for different resonance conditions.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed suppression strategies is verified through simulation.Analysis and simulation results show that the suppression strategies for active and passive resonances are quite different.Their focuses are respectively on improving the comprehensive impedance of MMC AC-side system and suppressing the negative damping of MMC impedance at the resonance frequency.
