Sedimentary facies characteristics of the Tugulu group and the implications for uranium mineralization in the Xiazijie area,northwestern margin of the Junggar basin

Abstract
This paper focuses on the Lower Cretaceous Tugulu group strata in the Xiazijie area of the Northwestern margin of the Junggar basin,Xinjiang.Using methods such as geological surveys,borehole core observations,and microscopic identification of rock thin sections,combined with sedimentary system research and cross-well correlation,we discussed the role of sedimentary facies characteristics of the Tugulu group strata in the Xiazijie area in the uranium mineralization process.The study reveals that through microscopic petrological analysis,the sandstones in the Tugulu group are dominated by lithic sandstones,followed by feldspathic lithic sandstones,with good sorting,low structural maturity,and low compositional maturity.These characteristics collectively indicate that the sand bodies are close to the provenance.During the deposition of the Tugulu group,a sedimentary system transitioning from braided river deltas to lakes formed in the Xiazijie area,which is further divided into four sedimentary subfacies:braided river delta plain,delta front,prodelta,and shore-shallow lake.Additionally,,the sedimentary environment was characterized by a large scope,shallow depth,and gentle slopes.This specific sedimentary environment is crucial for the uranium mineralization process in this region.In particular,the thick underwater distributary channel sand bodies formed during the early sedimentary stage provide abundant ore-hosting spaces.At present,the main uranium mineralization exposed in the Xiazijie area develops in the distributary channel sand bodies of the braided river delta front.The distributary channel sand bodies in the braided river delta front are one of the key factors for the development of oxidation zones and ore body enrichment.These sand bodies have good pan-connectivity and a stable"mud-sand-mud"structure,providing favorable conditions for fluid migration and mineralization.Good sand body connectivity and a stable"mud-sand-mud"structure are conducive to the formation of uranium mineralization.关键词
