摘要

Abstract

The valuation of owner-occupied housing services is a crucial component of national accounts,and current meth-ods call for improvement.This paper applies both the virtual depreciation approach and the user cost approach to estimate imputed rents for owner-occupied housing among urban and rural residents nationwide,and systematically compares the differences be-tween China and economies of different income levels,G7 countries,BRICS countries,etc.The results show that the traditional virtual depreciation method understates the value of owner-occupied housing services.Using the more rigorous user cost approach improves valuation accuracy and strengthens the international comparability of related macroeconomic indicators.
