Abstract

This study investigates the long-term spatiotemporal distribution of atmospheric ozone in Jiangxi Province,China.We examined the spatial and temporal variations of total ozone column concentrations(2005-2023)and tropospheric ozone column concentrations(2005-2020)and associated affecting factors,using satellite data from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument(OMI)and the OMI-Microwave Limb Sounder(OMI-MLS).Results indicate that the atmospheric O3 column concentrations in Jiangxi Province demonstrated a fluctuating upward trend from 2005 to 2023,with an annual mean of 273 DU and a growth rate of 0.39 DU·a-1.Lowest and highest O3 concentrations were observed in 2008 and 2022,respectively.Notably,the rate of increase during 2019-2023 was over five times higher than during 2005-2018.Seasonal analysis showed peak O3 levels in spring,followed by summer and autumn.Spatially,elevated O3 column concentrations were predominantly located in the low-altitude northern regions of Jiangxi,including Jiujiang,Nanchang,and western Shangrao along the Poyang Lake plain,while low O3 concentrations dominated over southern Jiangxi.Tropospheric O3 column concentrations displayed an overall upward trend from 2005 to 2020,with an annual growth rate of 0.29 DU·a-1 and reaching its peak in 2019.Seasonal patterns resembled those of total O3 levels.Correlation analysis revealed that both atmospheric O3 and tropospheric O3 column concentrations were significantly negatively correlated with pressure,while showing positive correlations with air temperature,precipitation,and sunshine duration,with temperature showing the strongest positive correlation.Furthermore,both O3 levels exhibited noticeable positive correlations with regional economic indicators(gross product and primary,secondary,and tertiary industries)and total energy consumption,with secondary industry showing the strongest positive correlation.However,it showed a negative correlation with NOx emissions.
