Abstract

To analyze the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of precipitation in Yulin City,this study explored the characteristics by adopting methods including the Mann-Kendall significance test and Empirical Orthogonal Function(EOF)analysis,based on the daily pre-cipitation data from 8 meteorological stations in the region during 1960-2016.The results show that the multi-year average precipitation in Yulin City is 413 mm.The annual,spring,summer and autumn precipitation presents an insignificant decreasing trend at rates of-1.77,-0.82,-1.14 and-0.22 mm per decade respectively,while the winter precipitation shows an insignificant increasing trend at a rate of 0.40 mm per decade.Spatially,the annual precipitation increases gradually from east to west and from north to south.The primary distribu-tion pattern of annual and seasonal precipitation is the homogeneous abundance-deficiency type,and the secondary pattern is the north-south differential type.Specifically,the annual,spring and winter precipitation features the pattern of more in the south and less in the north,whereas the summer and autumn precipitation shows the opposite pattern of less in the south and more in the north.
