Abstract

To address the challenge of corrosion leakage failures in interstage heat exchangers of cracking gas compressor units compromising continuous plant operation,an innovative solution of using S44400(019Cr19Mo2NbTi)ferritic stainless steel tube bundles heat exchangers was proposed based on the principle of balancing economy and safety.Compared with S31603(022Cr17Ni12Mo2)and S22053(022Cr23Ni5Mo3N),the thermal conductivity of S44400 has increased by approximately 53%and 21%respectively,the coefficient of thermal expansion has decreased by 35%and 24%respectively.S44400 demonstrated superior resistance to intergranular corrosion and chloride stress corrosion compared to S31603,while its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion was close to that of S31603 in chlorinated water environments.The results show that the S44400 tube bundle heat exchanger offers higher heat exchange efficiency,lower energy consumption,longer equipment lifespan,and reduced maintenance costs.The localization of S44400 heat exchange tubes has reduced the cost of S44400 tube bundle heat exchangers to 91%of that of S31603 tube bundle heat exchangers and 86%of that of S22053 tube bundle heat exchangers,demonstrating higher economic efficiency.With the expansion of the production scale and the popularization of application of S44400 heat exchange tubes,the cost is expected to be further reduced.The research not only resolves the corrosion and leakage problem of the heat exchanger between the cracking gas sections but also achieves cost reduction and efficiency improvement,providing a high performance and low cost solution for the refining and chemical industry.
