A comparative study on the lesion extent of granulomatous mastitis and its rare subtypes based on ultrasound measurements

Abstract

Objective:Through ultrasound measurements,to explore the differences between cystic neutrophilic granuloma-tous mastitis(CNGM)and granulomatous mastitis(GLM),and identify distinctive features for differentiation.Methods:A retro-spective analysis was conducted on 100 cases each of CNGM and GLM,all pathologically confirmed by biopsy with complete ultrasound and clinical data.Pearson or Spearman correlation analyses,as well as multiple linear regression,were used to ex-amine the relationship between lesion extent and disease type in the two forms of mastitis.Results:Compared with GLM,pa-tients with CNGM were younger((33±5)years old vs.(36±5)years old,P<0.05)and had more stable emotional status(41%vs.23%,P<0.05).Ultrasound findings were more often diffuse in CNGM(64%vs.46%,P<0.05),with a larger lesion extent(trans-verse diameter:(5.63±2.58)cm vs.(3.52±1.50)cm;longitudinal diameter:(2.18±0.92)cm vs.(1.89±1.00)cm,P<0.05).After ad-justing for confounding factors in correlation analysis,the lesion extent in CNGM remained larger than in GLM,and this find-ing persisted after stratification(P<0.05).Conclusion:Ultrasound measurements reveal that the lesion involvement range in CNGM is greater than that in GLM.
