Impact and mechanisms of intelligent manufacturing on corporate environmental performance:moderating effect based on external pressure and support
摘要
Abstract
As a core technology in the new round of technological revolution,intelligent manufacturing can not only help enterprises fa-cilitate high-quality development but also promote the green transformation of enterprises to achieve the coordinated development of economic performance and environmental performance.Using a sample of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share manufacturing listed enter-prises from 2012 to 2021,this study explored the impact,mechanisms,and heterogeneity of intelligent manufacturing on corporate envi-ronmental performance.The result showed that:① Intelligent manufacturing could significantly improve corporate environmental per-formance.This conclusion remained robust in the tests of changing environmental performance and intelligent manufacturing measure-ment methods and remained valid after overcoming endogeneity using the Heckman two-stage model,instrumental variable method,and PSM-DID model.② The mechanism analysis found that intelligent manufacturing significantly promoted corporate environmental per-formance by improving the information environment through the information effect,improving resource capacities through the resource effect,stimulating innovation vitality through the technology effect,and reducing agency problems through the governance effect.③ The heterogeneity analysis of external regulatory pressure and policy support found that in enterprises with stronger external regula-tory pressure,such as high environmental regulation and key pollutant discharge monitoring,and enterprises receiving more external policy support,such as strong financial and fiscal support,intelligent manufacturing had a greater positive effect on promoting corporate environmental performance.④ The heterogeneity analysis of internal characteristics found that the positive effect of intelligent manu-facturing on promoting corporate environmental performance was significantly stronger in state-owned enterprises and enterprises with high internal control quality.⑤ The heterogeneity analysis of the external institutional environment found that the positive effect of in-telligent manufacturing on promoting corporate environmental performance was stronger in enterprises in areas with lower marketization levels and weaker legal environments.⑥ The analysis of the value effect found that intelligent manufacturing further improved the eco-nomic value of enterprises through the mechanism of enhancing environmental performance,and could indeed achieve the unity of envi-ronmental performance and economic performance.This study analyzes the impact,mechanisms,and boundary conditions of intelligent manufacturing on corporate environmental performance from both theoretical and empirical perspectives,and provides useful insights for promoting the intelligent transformation and upgrading of enterprises and achieving their green development.关键词
