Establishment of A Comprehensive Quality Evaluation Method for Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex from Perspectives of Authenticity and Production Standardization

Abstract
Objective:To establish a comprehensive quality evaluation method for Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex by integrating traditional geo-authenticity and modern production standardization.Methods:A vernier caliper and a benchtop spectrophotometer were used to quantitatively characterize the thickness and color of Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex.Ultra-performance liquid chromatography(UPLC)was employed to determine the content of eight chemical components:syringin,magnoloside A,magnoloside B,magnolol,honokiol,piperitylmagnolol,magnoflorine,and magnocurarine.Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex samples from different producing regions were compared in terms of appearance traits and chemical component content,and the key indicators reflecting its authenticity were identified.Samples with different growing years were collected from authentic producing areas to investigate variations across different growth periods and to determine key indicators of production standardization.The entropy weight method was employed to assign weights to quality indicators for both authenticity and production standardization.By combining measured values and weights,authenticity and production standardization attributes were scored(comprehensive quality evaluation indices),and the overall quality of Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex was evaluated based on the total score of these two attributes.Results:Five indicators were established for geo-authenticity:honokiol content,the ratio of honokiol to magnolol,the ratio of magnolin B to magnolin A,piperitylmagnolol content,and magnolin B content,with assigned weights of 0.136,0.127,0.107,0.455,and 0.175,respectively.Three indicators were selected for production standardization:the total content of magnolol and honokiol,thickness,and color(total color difference),with weights of 0.207,0.529,and 0.264,respectively.The comprehensive evaluation index for all samples ranged from 19.45 to 160.56,indicating significant quality differences.Conclusion:The established comprehensive quality evaluation method effectively reflects the overall quality of Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex and provides a valuable reference for the quality assessment of other medicinal materials.关键词
