Abstract

The stab resistance of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene(UHMWPE)unidirectional fab-ric/woven fabric composites was taken as the research object and a high-temperature and high-pressure process was adopted,eight types of composites with different structures were prepared by combining TPU-based UHM-WPE unidirectional fabrics with resin-finished UHMWPE woven fabrics,and their stab resistance was analyzed.The results showed that combination of TPU-based UHMWPE unidirectional fabrics with resin-finished woven fabrics significantly enhanced the stab resistance of the material,outperforming the pure unidirectional fabric structure.The alternating mixed angle-ply laminate of unidirectional and woven fabrics exhibited the optimal stab resistance with a static puncture force of 121 N,representing a 63%improvement compared with the pure unidi-rectional fabric without composite woven fabric.The underlying mechanism was attributed to the coordinated re-sistance of the interlocking of yarns in the woven fabric and the stress dispersion provided by the unidirectional fabric during stabbing.In contrast,pure unidirectional fabric was prone to immediate stab resistance failure due to stress concentration.The study provided a practical basis and reference for the development of UHMWPE uni-directional fabric/woven fabric composites for stab resistance applications.
