The Interaction between the Institutionalization of Automation Discipline and the Development of Analog Computers in China:A Historical Investigation Based on the"Task-Driven Discipline Development"Model

Abstract
In the mid-20th century,China systematically established the automation discipline and the computer industry through the"The Twelve-Year Science and Technology Plan"to serve cutting-edge national defense tasks.Using the development of analog computers as a case study,the article examines the interaction between China's automation discipline institutionalization and scientific research tasks in the 1950s and 1960s.Driven by Soviet Union's technical assistance and the"task-driven discipline development"model,China delineated the disciplinary positioning of analog versus digital computers and established a dual research system represented by the Institute of Automation and the Institute of Computing Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.In this process,analog computers developed technical advantages in fields such as missile simulation and industrial control,achieving breakthroughs like the J-331 large-scale analog computer through disciplinary institutionalization.The case reveals a mutually shaping relationship between discipline planning and research tasks:disciplinary institutionalization provided sustained technical iterative capacity for major tasks,while task demands prompted dynamic adjustments in research directions and disciplinary boundaries.关键词
