Influence of machining status of Rayleigh groove in liquid rocket engine on sealing performance

Abstract
The sealing performance of Rayleigh groove seal in liquid rocket engine is affected by the machining status of groove area.A mathematical model of Rayleigh groove liquid lubricated mechanical seal was established based on mass-conserving Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson(JFO)cavitation boundary condition.The Reynolds governing equation was discretized by finite difference method,and SOR iterative algorithm was adopted to solve the discrete equation.The effects of radial linear variation,circumferential linear variation,and circumferential waviness variation of Rayleigh shallow groove depth on sealing performance were analyzed.Results show that when radial groove depth and circumferential groove depth of shallow groove change,opening force and leakage show opposite trends compared to the values of ideal groove depth.The influence of wave number and amplitude on opening force and leakage is related to rotating speed.When rotating speed is 40 000 r/min and radial linear variation of Rayleigh shallow groove depth is 4 μm,the relative changes in opening force and leakage caused by the decrease of groove depth are 2.24%and 3.10%higher than those caused by the increase of groove depth.In addtion,the relative changes in opening force and leakage caused by the change of groove depth on the inner diameter side are 1.80%and 3.64%higher than those caused by the change of groove depth on the outer diameter side.When rotating speed is 40 000 r/min and circumferential linear variation of Rayleigh shallow groove depth is 4 μm,the relative changes in opening force and leakage caused by the decrease of groove depth are 6.43%and 8.12%higher than those caused by the increase of groove depth.The influence degree of circumferential outlet or inlet side groove depth change on opening force and leakage are related to rotating speed.关键词
