Abstract

The study of mineral composition in shale gas reservoirs is of significant importance for the evaluation and development of shale gas.X-ray diffraction technology was employed to conduct experimental testing and analysis of mud shale samples from the Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation at the northern edge of the Jianghan Basin.The results indicate that the quartz content is the highest,with an average content of 40.8%,followed by an average clay mineral content of 34%,and an average calcite content of 9.6%.The shale in the Shuijingtuo Formation is predominantly composed of mixed shale and siliceous shale.The redox environment during shale deposition shows a transition from anaerobic to oxidizing conditions from bottom to top.The study area is far from the carbonate platform,with relatively deep water.The mineral composition is mainly clay minerals and quartz,with low content carbonate mineral.The brittle mineral accounts for over 50%of the mud shale of the Shuijingtuo Formation,which is favorable for fracturing and stimulation.Compared to successfully developed shale gas regions both domestically and internationally,the study area exhibits certain similarities and possesses favorable geological conditions for shale gas accumulation.
