Abstract

The Carboniferous source rocks in the Qiangtang Basin represent a newly discovered hydrocarbon exploration target layer following the Jurassic series,with their paleoenvironmental characteristics holding significant implications for evaluating petroleum resources.This study systematically analyzed the paleo-water depth,paleoclimate,paleosalinity,and redox conditions during the formation of the Duomuo Formation source rocks using sedimentary geochemical methods based on experimental data of outcrop samples from the Kemo area.The results indicate that these source rocks formed under warm to temperate climatic conditions,exhibiting semi-arid to semi-humid paleoclimatic features.The sedimentary environment was a continental marginal shallow sea(h<200 m),with paleo-water depths ranging from 17.24 to 67.11 m,characterized by freshwater to slightly brackish conditions.The redox state of the water body exhibited a transitional"weakly oxidizing to suboxic"state,with limited and unstable dissolved oxygen levels.These findings not only provide new geochemical evidence for the paleoenvironmental evolution of the Qiangtang Basin but also lay an important foundation for subsequent organic geochemical studies of source rocks,offering critical guidance for assessing the basin's hydrocarbon potential.
