The regulatory role of SIRT6 in glucose and lipid metabolism

Abstract
Silent information regulator 6(SIRT6)is widely expressed in various tissues and organs,with relatively higher levels observed in the thymus,skeletal muscle,and brain.SIRT6 improves tissue insulin sensitivity,mitigates systemic insulin resistance,and contributes to glucose homeostasis.In lipid metabolism,SIRT6 promotes fatty acid oxidation in the liver and suppresses hepatic steatosis.In adipose tissue,it enhances thermogenesis and lipolysis,thereby reducing lipid accumulation.In skeletal muscle,SIRT6 facilitates fatty acid oxidation via AMPK activation.Overall,SIRT6 plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and represents a promising therapeutic target for metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes.This article reviews the regulatory effects of SIRT6 on glucose and lipid metabolism across multiple tissues,aiming to provide a reference for future experimental and clinical research.关键词
