Study on continuous information release strategy for highways based on visual characteristics

Abstract

Targeting the cognitive mechanisms of driver information neglect in the continuous Variable Message Signs(VMS)scenario of highways,this study systematically explores the dynamic influence of information combination strategy and release intensity on driver visual cognitive effectiveness and driving safety,based on cognitive load theory.The results show that:(1)When passing through multiple VMSs continuously,the driver's gaze point decays significantly,with a Jaccard similarity index of 0.57,indica-ting clear spatial overlap and a decrease in the visual resource allocation efficiency;(2)The alternating strategy,by periodically switching the information types,increases the pupil dilated area by 12.5%com-pared with the baseline value,and reduces the visual recognition load of downstream VMS by 33.92%;(3)The"strength-strategy coupling principle"is proposed,and a hierarchical dynamic switching frame-work that can dynamically adapt to release intensity and strategy is constructed.In high-intensity scenari-os,the alternating strategy lowers the vehicle speed variation coefficient by 17%,and headway deviation by 20.1%.The combined strategy in medium-to-low intensity scenarios increases the safety coefficient by 11.7%.The research findings provide a theoretical paradigm and quantitative basis for the optimization of dynamic VMS systems on highways.
