Pertussis and current status of pertussis vaccine development
摘要
Abstract
Pertussis,an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by Bordetella pertussis,has re-emerged in recent years,exposing critical public health challenges in vaccination and treatment strategies.This review comprehensively summarized the epidemiology,pathogenesis,intervention strategies,and vaccine development.We evaluated the advantages and limitations of licensed vaccines(whole-cell and acellular pertussis vaccines)and analyzed novel vaccine candidates under development(genetically attenuated vaccines,outer membrane vesicle vaccines,mRNA vaccines,etc.).Furthermore,we compared two different immunization strategies,maternal vaccination and the cocooning strategy,and analyzed the impact of vaccine pressure on bacterial mutation dynamics,disease resurgence,and herd immunity.Finally,we proposed recommendations for improved control of pertussis.关键词
