Effect of Low-Protein Concentrate Supplementation Balanced with Rumen-Bypass Amino Acids on Growth Performance and Rumen Fermentation Parameters of Weaned Yak Calves Grazing in Cold-Season

Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the effects of supplementing a low-crude protein(CP)con-centrate,balanced with rumen-protected amino acids(RPAA),on the growth performance,serum biochemi-cal indices,and rumen fermentation parameters of weaned yak calves grazing during the cold season.Twenty-four healthy,male weaned yak calves with similar initial body weight[(57.75±1.88)kg]were randomly allocated into three treatment groups(n=8 per group).Group Ⅰ received a concentrate supplement formulated to 19.50%CP,groups Ⅱand Ⅲ received a concentrate formulated to 18.00%CP.Additionally.Group Ⅲ was supplemented with 0.31%rumen-protected lysine(RPLys)and 0.03%rumen-protected methionine(RPMet).The experiment included an 8-day adaptation period followed by a 90-day formal trial period.The results indicated that no significant differences(P>0.05)in growth performance were observed among the three treatment groups.Regarding serum biochemistry,group Ⅰ exhibited significantly higher(P<0.05)aspartate aminotransferase(AST)activity and uric acid(UA)levels compared to group Ⅲ.Conversely,the total cholesterol(TC)concen-tration in group Ⅲ was significantly elevated(P<0.05)relative to both groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ.Furthermore,serum concentrations of interleukin-2(IL-2)and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)in group Ⅲ were sig-nificantly greater(P<0.05)than those in group Ⅱ.In terms of rumen fermentation parameters,the concentra-tions of acetate and butyrate in group Ⅰ were significantly higher(P<0.05)than those observed in group Ⅲ.In conclusion,under cold-season grazing conditions,supplementing weaned yak calves with an 18.00%CP concentrate fortified with RPLys and RPMet did not compromise growth performance.This dietary strategy appeared to alleviate the hepatic metabolic burden,enhance lipid metabolism,and positively modulate immune function,without adversely impacting the overall rumen fermentation profile.关键词
