Eszopiclone Combined with Exercise Therapy as Adjunctive Treatment for Schizophrenia with Comorbid Sleep Disorders:an Observational Study

Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the effect of eszopiclone(dexzopiclone)combined with exercise therapy as adjunctive treat-ment for patients with schizophrenia and comorbid sleep disorders.Methods:A total of 74 patients with schizophrenia and sleep disorders treated at the Department of Psychiatry,Taixing Mental Health Center(n=22),and the Department of Sleep,Taixing Psychiatric Prevention and Treatment Hospital(n=52),Jiangsu Province,from October 2023 to October 2024 were enrolled and randomized by sealed envelopes to a control group(eszopiclone alone)or an intervention group(eszopiclone plus exercise thera-py)(n=37 per group).Treatment lasted one month.Outcomes included schizophrenia symptom severity(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale,PANSS:positive,negative,general psychopathology,and total scores),sleep quality(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality In-dex,PSQI),and overall clinical response rate.Results:After treatment,both groups showed significant reductions in PANSS do-main and total scores and in PSQI scores compared with baseline(all P＜0.05).The intervention group had greater improvements than the control group,with lower PANSS and PSQI scores posttreatment(all P＜0.05).The overall response rate was significant-ly higher in the intervention group than in the control group[(97.30％[36/37]vs 81.08％[30/37];P＜0.05).Conclusion:Eszopiclone combined with exercise therapy as adjunctive treatment improves schizophrenia symptoms and sleep quality more ef-fectively than eszopiclone alone and improves overall clinical effectiveness in patients with schizophrenia and comorbid sleep dis-orders.关键词
