Effects of rosmarinic acid on growth performance,serum antioxidant indexes,inflammatory factors,and gastrointestinal development in broilers exposed to particulate matter

Abstract
This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of rosmarinic acid on the growth performance,serum antioxidant indexes,inflammatory factors,and gastrointestinal development in broilers exposed to particulate matter(PM).A total of 144 healthy 14-day-old Arbor Acres(AA)broilers were randomly divided into three groups,with six replicates per group and eight broilers per replicate.The control group(group CON)and PM-exposed group(group PM)were fed the basal diet,while the PM-exposed+rosmarinic acid group(group RA)was supplemented with 200 mg/kg rosmarinic acid in the basal diet.The pre-trial period lasted for seven days,and the formal test period lasted for 21 days.The results showed that compared with group CON,the final body weight(FBW),average daily gain(ADG),and average daily feed intake(ADFI)were significantly lower in group PM(P<0.05),and the feed-to-gain ratio(F/G)was significantly higher(P<0.05).Compared with group CON,serum glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)were significantly reduced in group PM(P<0.05),but GSH-Px activity and T-AOC in group RA were significantly higher than in group PM(P<0.05).Compared with group CON,serum levels of interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6),interferon-γ(IFN-γ),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)were significantly increased in group PM(P<0.05),whereas IL-1β,IL-6,IFN-γ,and TNF-α levels were significantly lower in group RA than in group PM(P<0.05).Compared with group CON,the relative weight of the gizzard,jejunum,and ileum was significantly decreased in group PM(P<0.05).Compared with group PM,the relative weight of the gizzard,proventriculus,jejunum,and ileum was significantly increased in group RA(P<0.05).The study shows that dietary supplementation with 200 mg/kg rosmarinic acid can effectively alleviate PM-induced inflammatory responses,enhance antioxidant capacity,improve growth performance,and promote the development of the gastrointestinal tract in broilers.关键词
