The Role of Immune Factors in the Pathogenesis of Atherosclerosis from the Perspectives of Both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine

Abstract
Atherosclerosis(AS)is a chronic inflammatory vascular disease with a complex pathogenesis.Current research increasingly points to the involvement of immune responses.Risk factors lead to abnormal activation of immune cells such as macrophages,T cells,and B cells,contributing to the development of the disease.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)approaches the disease from the perspective of"deficiency-phlegm-stasis-toxicity,"considering its pathogenesis as a combination of root deficiency and superficial excess.Deficiency includes the depletion of qi,blood,and body fluids,while excess refers to pathological products that arise from deficiency and obstruct the meridians.Clinically,the treatment principle often focuses on tonifying deficiency and draining excess.Additionally,TCM emphasizes the impact of emotional factors on immune function,suggesting that internal emotional injuries can lead to liver qi stagnation,affecting the circulation of qi and blood,and thereby triggering or exacerbating atherosclerosis.Immune factors play a significant role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.This article reviews the influence of immunity on atherosclerosis from both TCM and Western medical perspectives,aiming to provide more possibilities for developing TCM diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.关键词
