Coupling Coordination Effect of Regional Economy and Air Quality:An Empirical Test of Panel Data from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei City Cluster

Abstract
How to achieve coordinated development between the economy and the environment has consistently been a pivotal topic in sustainable development research.Based on panel data concerning regional economy and air quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration from 2014 to 2023,this study employs the entropy weight method,coupling coordination degree model,spatial autocor-relation model,and grey relational analysis model to analyze the spatiotemporal patterns,regional disparities,and driving factors of the coupling coordination degree between regional economy and air quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration.The findings reveal that the regional economy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration exhibits a"centralized"development trend,with significant disparities in development levels among cities,gradually forming four central cities:Beijing,Tianjin,Shijiazhuang,and Tangshan.Conversely,air quality demonstrates a"decentralized"development trend,with minimal differences between cities and a year-by-year improvement.The coupling coordination level between regional economy and air quality shows a"fluctuating upward"trend over time.Although the level remains relatively low,it exhibits an overall upward trajectory and forms a diamond-shaped struc-ture supported by the four central cities in spatial terms.The coupling coordination level displays spatial agglomeration,with the degree of agglomeration initially increasing and then decreasing,primarily characterized by"high-high"and"high-low"agglomerations.The grey relational degrees between the coupling coordination degree and its driving factors,ranked from high to low,are the level of scien-tific and technological innovation,the degree of government intervention,the level of population urbanization,the level of marketiza-tion,and transportation infrastructure,all with correlation degrees exceeding 0.5.关键词
