Agricultural Global Value Chain Position Enhancement Effect of the Belt and Road Initiative

Abstract
This study measures the technical sophistication of agricultural exports for 93 countries and employs a staggered difference-in-differences approach to causally identify the effect of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)on the upgrading of countries'positions within the agricultural Global Value Chain(GVC).The findings indicate that the BRI significantly enhances the agricultural GVC position of participating countries,as measured by the technical sophistication of agricultural exports.The upgrading effect operates primarily through three mediating channels:expanding openness in agricultural product markets,encouraging international investment in agriculture,and facilitating agricultural technology exchange.Accordingly,the study proposes policy recommendations that include comprehensively improving the circulation of agricultural trade,advancing agricultural international investment through multiple coordinated measures,and strengthening multi-level cooperation in agricultural science and technology.These measures are intended to provide empirical and policy-relevant insights for more effectively leveraging the BRI to enhance agricultural GVC positioning.关键词
