PIC/DSMC Simulation Study on Rotating Spoke Effect in Cylindrical Anode Layer Hall Plasma Thruster

Abstract
The electron transport characteristics in Hall plasma thrusters have a great influence on the efficiency and stability of ion propulsion.It is of great significance to inhibit the rotating spoke during electron transport.In this paper,the rotating spoke of a cylindrical anode layer in Hall plasma thruster is investigated by PIC/DSMC simulation.It is found that rotating spoke in the near-anode region of the thruster is universal,even under high voltage conditions.The higher the voltage is,the greater the rotation frequency and the density of electron clusters in the rotating spoke are.Under the same operating conditions,the higher magnetic field intensity can inhibit the rotating spoke frequency.Increasing the magnetic field intensity has less effects on the density of the electron clusters than increasing the voltage,which making the rotating spoke more obvious.The rotating spoke frequency is in the order of tens of kHz,which belongs to the category of low-frequency oscillation.In order to suppress rotating spoke,the operation mode with low voltage and high magnetic field should be adopted as far as possible under the premise of meeting the requirements of thrusters.关键词
