Microwave Photonic Covert Communication Based on Phase-Modulated Amplified Spontaneous Emission Light

Abstract
Amplified Spontaneous Emission(ASE)light is an ideal light source for optical covert communication due to its signal characteristics being similar to optical noise,with phase modulation not altering the time-frequency domain characteristics of ASE light.However,due to the sub-millimeter coherence length of ASE light,delay-line interferometers cannot be used for demodulation.In response,a novel microwave photonic filtering detection method is proposed for phase-modulated ASE light.The phase-modulated ASE light is covertly transmitted over a 25 km public optical channel in the optical domain.To verify the feasibility of microwave photonic covert communication in the electrical domain,a reconfigurable intelligent surface is introduced to reflect the electrical signals from the photodetector output.The principles of microwave photonic covert communication are explained,and the experimental setup for principle verification is presented.Experimental results and discussions are provided,demonstrating that this approach will expand the applications of microwave photonics in covert communications and secure 6G communications.关键词
