China's oyster industry:global status,supply-demand situation,and prospects

Abstract
Oysters are the highest-yield single species in China's aquaculture industry and one of the most widely distributed and common seafood products domestically and globally.The study reveals:(1)China is the world's largest oyster producer,accounting for nearly 88％of global production and 80％of global output value.This dominance is attributed to the research,demonstration,and application of"improved varieties,advanced methods,and innovative techniques,"with these shares showing an upward trend.(2)China's oyster industry has developed a comprehensive industrial chain encompassing seedling breeding,aquaculture,processing,trade,logistics,and consumption.Fujian and Shandong provinces are the largest oyster-producing regions in China,contributing 34％and 22％of domestic output,respectively.(3)In recent years,China's oyster exports have fluctuated but trended upward,while imports have shown declining volumes but rising values,reflecting a clear shift toward high-end products to meet evolving consumer demands.Overall sufficient supply and declining plumpness(due to industrial practices)have led to a downward trend in domestic prices.Driven by long-term market expansion,improved seed quality,effective disease control,demonstration of farming capacity,mechanization advancements,and value chain extensions,China's oyster industry is poised for sustained and stable development,with accelerated upgrades likely in the future.关键词
