Abstract

Snowmelt-induced landslides induced by climate change in the seasonally frozen region have gradually become a common geomorphological phenomenon,however,their triggering and evolution processes have not been clearly understood.By selecting the Zektai River in the Yili Valley of China as the study area,and based on field investigation,remote sensing interpretation and data analysis,the distribution pattern and occur-rence mechanism of snowmelt-induced loess landslides are tried to be explained.The results show that:①loess landslides are characterized by significant topographic and seasonal variations,and loess landslides are a multi-stage deformation and failure process induced by periodic snowmelt infiltration;②the most important controlling factor of loess slope deformation and failure is the rapid snow melt driven by the sudden increase of temperature in the spring,and the repeated snowmelt infiltration and freezing and thawing cycles are the most important driv-ing force for the development of the deformation of the loess slopes in the successive cumulative development.Future warming will greatly increase the risk of landslides in the seasonally frozen regions.
