Changes of vegetation greenness and their response to hydrothermal conditionson the Tibet Plateau

Abstract
[Objective]This study aims to analyzethe response of vegetation greenness changes to hydrothermal conditions acrossdifferent altitude gradients in Alpine grasslands.The findings are intended to providescientific data for the rational utilization of grassland resources and a theoretical basis for formulating sustainable restoration and management strategies for theseecosystems.[Method]We investigated the spatiotemporal variation in grassland veg-etation greeness on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from 2001 to 2020 using MODIS NDVI data and meteorological obser-vations.Methods including the coefficient of variation,TS-MK trend analysis,and partial correlation analysis were employed to assess trends and to examine the response of greenness to hydrothermal conditions(average temperature and precipitation)across variousaltitude.[Result](1)Spatially,61.27%of the grassland area showed an increasing trend ingreenness,with 20.31%exhibitinga significant increase(P<0.05)-an area 6.3 times larger than that with a significant decrease(P<0.05).Temporally,while significant interannual fluctuations occurred,the overall interan-nual trend was not significant(P>0.05),with NDVI increasing at a rate of 0.0016 per year.(2)The response of vegetation greenness to hydrothermal conditions showed spatial heterogeneity.A significantpositive correlation was found between greenness and average temperature(P<0.05)anda significant negative correlationwith precipitation(P<0.05)were observed in the northeastern part of the plateau.(3)The positive response of vegetation greenness to temperature wasmore pronouncedin alpine meadows,whereasits positive response to precipitation was stronger in the alpine grassland.(4)With increasingaltitude,the response of greenness to average temperature followed a uni-modal pattern,while itsresponse to precipitation exhibited a weak,non-significant increasing trend(P>0.05).Nota-bly,areas below 1 500 meters exhibited a negative and highly variableresponse of greennessto both temperature and precipitation,identifying them as key targets for future work on the prevention and control of alpine grassland degrada-tion.[Conclusion]Over thepast two decades,grassland vegetation on the Tibetan Plateau has shown gradual im-provement.Altitude plays a crucial role in regulating the response of grassland vegetation greenness to hydrothermal conditions and must be considered in the development of effective grassland ecosystem management strategies.关键词
