Abstract

An in-depth analysis of the transformation of dissolved organic matter(DOM)during pharmaceutical wastewater treatment is of great significance for enhancing treatment efficiency and meeting higher discharge standards.Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-ICR MS)can precisely analyze the composition and changes of major DOM molecules at the specific molecular formula level during wastewater treatment.Therefore,using the FT-ICR MS method,this study analyzed the changes in DOM molecules throughout the main treatment processes of a typical pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plant.The results showed that:1)The influent DOM molecules in this pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plant were mainly composed of CHONS and lignin-like molecules;2)During the physicochemical treatment process,some lignin-like DOM molecules were removed,with oxygenation and dealkylation reactions predominantly occurring during the process;3)During the biochemical treatment process,a large number of protein-like,lignin-like,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecules were generated,with a significant number of oxygenation,dealkylation,and denitrification reactions taking place;4)In the advanced oxidation process,dealkylation,decarboxylation,and acetylation reactions mainly occurred,while characteristic pollutants such as the penicillin core structure could not be effectively removed;5)The final effluent DOM molecules were still dominated by CHONS and lignin-like compounds,and characteristic pollutants such as the penicillin core structure remained.This study analyzed the changes in major DOM molecules during pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and the possible reactions in each key treatment process,providing effective data support and technical guidance for the improvement of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment processes.
