Abstract

Guangxi is the largest production region of passion fruit(Passiflora edulis Sims)in China,and has been on top in the country in terms of planting area,production and output value for many years.The breeding of passion fruit varieties in Guangxi has achieved remarkable results.The heat-tolerant passion fruit variety Qinguo 9 has been successfully bred,which characteristics of high temperature resistance,high yield,and pure sweetness without acidity make it rapidly popular,be-coming the main cultivar in passion fruit production of Guangxi,and gradually extended to neigh-boring provinces including Hainan,Yunnan,Guizhou,Guangdong,and Fujian.Other Guangxi bred varieties such as Jindu Passion Fruit 3 and Zhuangmi 05 are also being steadily promoted.Meanwhile,passion fruit cultivation techniques are continuously being optimized.In the southern Guangxi region,the transplanting season has been advanced from March-April to January and De-cember of the last year by implementing measures such as cold-resistant greenhouse culture,straw mulching,and supplementary lighting in greenhouses,and adjusting the water-fertilizer ratio to pro-mote early fruiting,flowering,and maturation of passion fruit.By utilizing the climatic advantages of low latitude and abundant heat,multiple production cycles with extended duration have been achieved.The cultivation has been progressing toward large-scale and automated management,sup-ported by integrated fertigation systems and environmental monitoring technologies to ensure sus-tained productivity.The northwest of Guangxi is characterized by high altitude,large temperature difference,high incidence of diseases,relatively short and concentrated production period.In the cultivation,more attention has been paid to the selection of disease-resistant varieties,terraced hedges planting and reasonable intercropping with other crops,which have achieved remarkable results in this region.Scientific and technological innovation has driven forming a comprehensive industrial chain system covering variety breeding,seedling production,cultivation management,processing and sales,which has effectively supported poverty alleviation and rural revitalization with its short production cycle and the attribute of linking and motivating farmers.However,the passion fruit industry still faces problems including single variety structure,low degree of standard-ization,serious pests and diseases for whole farming period,weak scientific and technological sup-port,and insufficient brand building.In response to these,this study proposed the following strate-gies in conjunction with the deployment of the construction task of the Guangxi Characteristic Fruit Industry Innovation Team:to strengthen the selection and promotion of independent varieties,opti-mize the distribution of passion fruit varieties throughout the region,establish the full-chain stan-dard system,enhance the green prevention and control of pests and diseases,increase investment for basic scientific research,cultivate leading enterprises and brands,and deepen scientific and tech-nological cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN countries,etc.,so as to provide a theoretical basis and practical paths for the transformation and upgrading of the passion fruit industry in Guangxi,and assist the sustainable development of rural economy.
