Abstract

To address issues such as reduced system efficiency and energy loss during load shedding in compressed air energy storage(CAES)plants,this paper proposes a dynamic load shedding operation strategy based on disconnection time thresholds.Firstly,a 300 MW class CAES power generation system model was constructed using the APROS software.Second,the disconnection time threshold that affected system energy consumption was assumed to propose two operation strategies including maintaining rated-speed operation and shutting down to standby.Finally,through dynamic modeling and system characteristic analysis involving key components such as expanders,air storage tanks,and heat exchangers,the existence of the disconnection time threshold was verified and an optimal load shedding operation strategy was derived.The results show that the unit exhibits a disconnection time threshold of 30 minutes.When the disconnection time is below the threshold,the rated-speed operation strategy is adopted,which achieves the lowest average gas consumption per unit time(13.58 t/min)and offers the advantage of rapid grid connection.This strategy is suitable for fast start-stop peak shaving and frequency regulation scenarios.When the disconnection time exceeds the threshold,the shutdown strategy results in lower cumulative gas consumption(537.03 t for a 60 minute disconnection time),making it more appropriate for dispatchablc standby applications.Correlation analysis indicates that the expander inlet pressure and temperature significantly influences the threshold,specifically,the threshold decreases with increasing inlet pressure and temperature.This study proposes a dynamic decoupling strategy based on a disconnection time threshold,providing a theoretical foundation for CAES power plants to address different grid load fluctuation scenarios and to support economic evaluations.
