Fisheries biological characteristics of Acetes and the relationship between catch and environmental factors in the adjacent waters of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant

Abstract
The study aimes to analyze the biological characteristics of Acetes fishery near the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant and explore the correlation between catch per unit effort(CPUE)and marine environmental factors.Acetes catches were surveyed in the Dongping sea area of Yangjiang from March 2021 to February 2022.Simultaneously,environmental data of the sampling sea area was gathered.Acetes samples were randomly collected on a daily basis from February to April 2022,the species and gender were identified,and total length and body weight were measured.The findings revealed a collection of 3 500 Acetes japonicus and 849 Acetes chinensis.Acetes japonicus had an average total length of(26.8±3.2)mm,while Acetes chinensis averaged(31.8±2.9)mm in total length.Overall,both species exhibited an increasing trend in total length throughout the experiment,with Acetes japonicus generally smaller than Acetes chinensis.Additionally,both species displayed a female-biased sex ratio.The average female-to-male ratio was 1.6∶1 for Acetes japonicus and 1.4∶1 for Acetes chinensis.The catch per unit effort(CPUE)range for Acetes was 0.03-256.50 kg·h-1,reaching the lowest point in September and the peak in February.Analysis of annual CPUE variations indicated that the peak seasons for Acetes in the Dongping sea area of Yangjiang were autumn and winter.The generalized additive model(GAM)was employed to model the catch dynamics of Acetes.Analysis revealed that temporal variations in catch per unit effort(CPUE)were significantly influenced by turbidity(Tur),sea surface temperature(SST),and sea surface salinity(SSS)during spring and summer.Moreover,SST exerted a more pronounced influence during autumn,while winter was primarily influenced by SST,SSS,Tur,and tidal range(TR).The findings can offer crucial insights for the dynamic assessment of shrimp resources in the western Guangdong waters and the safety of coastal industrial cooling water intakes.关键词
