Abstract
There have long been disputes over issues such as what kind of responsibility Ma Su(马谡)should bear for the Shu army's defeat at the Battle of Jieting(街亭),whether he deserved the death penalty,whether he fought against overwhelming odds when facing the Wei army,and how he behaved after the defeat.Through textual research,it is shown that before the battle,Ma Su commanded a large army and first seized favorable terrain.However,he disobeyed military orders and altered Zhuge Liang's deployment,which left the Shu army cut off from water and rations,severely undermining its combat effectiveness and leading to a crushing defeat in the battle.Ma Su abandoned his troops and fled;upon returning to the camp,he fled again out of fear of punishment.His conduct was extremely despicable and aroused public outrage among the officers and soldiers.Zhuge Liang's decision to execute him was in line with military law and reason,and thus beyond reproach.关键词
