Effects of Coal Ash Composition on the Cooling Crystallization Behavior of Slag

Abstract
Decreased coal-ash slag flowability in the slag removal process during industrial-scale gasification often causes blockages,destabilizing unit operation.In this study,9 synthetic coal ashes with varying compositions were prepared and analyzed using ash-fusion tests,in-situ high-temperature hot stage microscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD),and FactSage thermodynamic modelling to assess the individual and synergistic effects of Ca,P,and Fe.Beyond the overall chemical composition,it was observed that Ca,P,and Fe significantly influence crystallization kinetics:increased P promotes high-dimensional(3-D)crystal growth,whereas elevated Fe shifts the crystallization toward low-dimensional(1-D/2-D)forms.Though higher P2O5 consistently raises the ash-fusion temperatures,the fluxing effect of Fe is more pronounced,resulting in a lower melting range.Moreover,XRD analysis revealed that a decrease in CaO content reduces the proportion of highly polymerized,viscosity-building phases,consequently lowering the viscosity of the residual melt.关键词
