Abstract

Based on extensive measured bathymetric and hydrological data of a nuclear power plant,the siltation characteristics and influencing factors of the intake channel were studied.The conclusions are as follows:Before the renovation of the intake channel,the annual siltation rate of the excavation trench near the Phase Ⅰ intake is 1.3 m/a in the first year after dredging,and then decreases to approximately 0.05 m/a thereafter.The mean annual siltation rate is approximately 0.3 m/a between two dredging operations.This is because the intake channel is very short,allowing the shallow bed sediment around it to be transported as bedload into the excavation trench under strong wave and current conditions,which results in a relatively high siltation rate during the initial period after excavation.When the bed elevation of the excavation trench gradually increases and remains consistent with the surrounding seabed elevation,the siltation rate decreases significantly,with the deposited sediment consisting mainly of suspended sediment.After the expansion and renovation,the siltation rate of the excavation trench near the Phase Ⅰ intake decreases significantly,with an average rate of approximately 0.1 m/a in 2024,because limited bed sediment around it can be transported into the channel.Due to the low wave height and flow velocity in the intake channel,suspended sediment from the open sea enters and settles along the path from the entrance to the Phase Ⅰ and Ⅱ intakes,where the siltation rate is very low.At present,the post-renovation monitoring period for the intake channel is relatively short,and local construction activities cause the underwater terrain to be unstable,leading to higher short-term sedimentation rates in some areas.Therefore,continued monitoring of the intake channel sedimentation is recommended to gain a deeper and more accurate understanding of its sedimentation patterns.
