Non-Traditional Arable Land Use:Advances and Future Directions
摘要
Abstract
Amid overlapping shocks from global trade disputes,local conflicts and extreme climate events,food systems are undergoing profound transformation.To address mounting food security challenges,non-traditional arable land resources are increasingly entering the agendas of policy-making and academic research.Building on a theoretical review,this study clarifies the concept of non-traditional arable land,synthesizes domestic and international research and practice,and outlines future research directions.Existing studies largely centre on related concepts such as edible landscapes,productive landscapes and urban agriculture,drawing mainly on case studies and field surveys to explore resource identification and potential assessment,utilization patterns and exemplary practices,as well as benefit evaluation and impact analysis.However,the definition and classification of non-traditional arable land remain ambiguous,particularly within urban community contexts where research is sparse.We argue that harnessing non-traditional arable land offers an innovative pathway to strengthen food security and advance urban sustainability.Future work should deepen inquiry into conceptual frameworks and classification standards,spatial planning and policy,technological innovation and sustainability,economic viability and business models,socio-cultural dimensions and public engagement,benefit assessment systems,and the implications of scaling for food security.关键词
