Spatiotemporal evolution of multiple cropping index in typical areas of the Western Shandong Plain from 2003 to 2022

Abstract
[Purpose]Research on cultivated land use intensity is essential for ensuring food security,improving land use efficiency,and promoting sustainable agricultural development.As a key region of the Huang-Huai-Hai grain production area,the Western Shandong Plain(Luxi Plain)exhibits significant spatiotemporal heterogeneity in cultivated land use intensity,warranting an in-depth examination of its characteristics and influencing factors.[Method]This study utilized high spatiotemporal resolution NDVI time series derived from the fusion of Landsat and MODIS satellite remote sensing data,along with land cover data,field surveys,and statistical data.Decision tree and dynamic threshold classification monitoring models were constructed to quantitatively extract the multiple cropping index(MCI)for eight years between 2003 and 2022 in Liaocheng City,a typical area of the Luxi Plain.The spatiotemporal characteristics and driving factors of cultivated land use intensity were analyzed.[Result](1)The MCI extracted by remote sensing showed good consistency with statistical data from the yearbook(R2=0.46,RMSE=0.10).(2)The spatial pattern of MCI revealed a gradual increase in cultivated land use intensity across the Liaocheng City.The cropping structure shifted from being dominated by"single/double-cropping"to a characteristic pattern of"predominantly double-cropping with sporadic triple-cropping".(3)Changes in land use intensity exhibited significant county-level differences,with Linqing and Gaotang County showing notably increasing MCI trends(P<0.05 and P<0.01,respectively).(4)Field surveys indicated that MCI was associated with factors such as climatic conditions,irrigation water availability,and agricultural policies,with the influence of regional agricultural policies being particularly prominent.[Conclusion]This study reveals the spatiotemporal evolution and county-level differentiation characteristics of the MCI and cropping structure in the typical area of the Luxi Plain,providing a scientific reference for regional agricultural industry optimization and high-quality development.关键词
