Spatiotemporal evolution of land use intensity and ecosystem stability in the Mu Us Desert region and their coupling coordination characteristics

Abstract
Land use intensity has a substantial impact on ecosystem stability.Clarifying the spatiotemporal evolution and coupling coordination relationship between land use intensity and ecosystem stability has significant implications for the sustainable use of regional land resources and ecological security.This study investigates the spatiotemporal evolution of land use intensity and ecosystem stability in the Mu Us Desert region from 2000 to 2020.This study employs a coupling coordination degree model to study the two variables'coupling coordination connection as well as their spatial differentiation patterns.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Land use intensity generally follows a pattern of"initial decline followed by stabilization",with medium-intensity types predominating.Low-intensity types show a gradual increase,while higher-intensity and high-intensity types exhibit minimal fluctuation.(2)The overall stability of ecosystems has remained moderate,with an improving trend from low to high stability.Regions with high stability have grown dramatically,whereas the number of medium and low stability regions has declined.The spatial pattern corresponds closely to land use intensity.(3)The level of coordination between land use intensity and ecosystem stability has gradually improved,with highly coordinated regions expected to reach 21.75%by 2020.This demonstrates a"core-periphery"differentiation pattern.Central counties maintain relatively stable coordination,western counties have seen significant improvement driven by ecological engineering initiatives,and eastern counties have lower coordination levels,though peripheral regions have shown gradual improvement since 2010.These findings provide scientific insights and decision-making support for optimizing land-use structure,enhancing ecosystem stability,and promoting sustainable land resource management in desertification-prone regions.关键词
